The Blessing of a Dad

On father’s day I think about the blessing of my Dad
How God has truly blessed me with a strong yet loving man
He leads his family gently, with patient discipline
And when his children falter, he’s there to hold their hand.

My Dad’s a gentle teacher; he’s patient with his kids
He helps with math and baseball, and gives advice and tips
A carpenter and plumber, my pop can fix it all
He works hard to provide the best and cheers his family on.

Protector and defender, encourager and friend
He’s always there through thick and thin, no matter what my sin
A calm and gentle force, a word of wisdom shared
A shoulder soft to lean upon, I know my Daddy cares.

The needs of his whole family, he puts before his own
A safe and loving shelter, when the world turns upside down
He doesn’t hold his children back, but gives them wings to fly
He’s sees their gifts and talents and wants each one applied.

When I think of my Daddy, my heart fills up with thanks
For he’s a Godly leader that stands up to the test
He leads us by example, he sees with Godly view
And when he falls he demonstrates, humility and truth.

Oh Lord please bless my Father, pour out your grace on him
Please give him wealth of wisdom and Your peace deep within
Help him shine with your glory, to have a heart that’s true
To magnify Your holy name and each day be renewed.
