When a girl grows up without her dad it can affect her in a lot of different ways. She can feel rejected, abandoned, insecure and lack self confidence. She can develop an eating disorder because she has distorted body issues. She can look for love in all the wrong places and keep trying to use men to validate herself. I felt and did all of those things. Not only because I didn’t have a dad, but not having a dad definitely played into a lot of my issues. The thing is, everyone has a dad, but some dad’s don’t stick around, either by choice or by life happenstance. My dad wasn’t around by choice. And no other dad stepped in. No uncle, no cousin, no brother, no man. No dad. But then I developed a relationship with my heavenly Father and while some may struggle to relate to God as Father, for some strange reason that became the easiest way for me to know Him. God was my Abba and I was His “Daddy’s Girl”. I had been waiting and searching and longing for a love like this. My heart had been crying out to connect with a father in such a way. So when there was no man available, God did it Himself. I went on relating to Him in this way, and then He did an amazing thing; He restored my relationship with my father! He also gave me spiritual dads. He blessed me to not just know Him as Dad, but to know other men as dad.
One of the ways I feel most loved by these father figures is if they call or text just to let me know they are thinking of me. We don’t have to do anything lavish together. I don’t need gifts or jewelry or money. I just need to know you are thinking of me. I need to know that you love me and that I hold a special place in your heart. Even being an adult woman, I still need to be Daddy’s Girl.
Man can fall short of meeting our needs but God never does. He is the perfect Dad. He is always ready to fill in the gap, provide where there is lack, and let us know we are always on His mind. He has written us on His palms; He could never forget us.
“See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.”
Her hope is to manifest healing, wholeness and restoration in her own life and to help her generation do the same.
